Kaohsiung City Bus Routes

Here are the Kaohsiung City Bus Routes with putative schedules (高雄市公共車路線總覽). To give credit where credit is due, it's not overloaded with a lot of annoying pop-ups and flash content that the Chiwanese are so fond of. I hardly ever take the bus, and for some reason, I had the greatest difficulty finding this page. Searching for 高雄市公共汽車 was no help at all, strangely enough.

The sidewalks in Kaohsiung are a menace. Last night I tripped and fell on the sidewalk on the south side of 五福一路 between 和平一路 and 凱旋一路, because the construction workers left a plastic pipe protruding into the place where people walk.

The sidewalks that have recently been renewed elsewhere are little better. The tiles on the sidewalk on 思維三路 between 中山二路 and 復興二路 are coming loose; some wobble, others are tilted, and many are chipped.

Someone is doing a very poor job.

Why in the world is it called Kaohsiung Walking?

Why in the world is it called Kaohsiung Walking? Whoever chose this name never tried walking in Kaohsiung. Kaohsiung is a terrible city for walking.

Crossing the street on foot is dangerous because the cars and especially the motorcycles try to cut it as close as they can, not to speak of the motorcycles driving across the crosswalk, often against traffic regulations. Cars and motorcycles both stop on the crosswalks, making it hard to cross. Even if they obeyed the regulations, most Taiwan cities have the ridiculous rule where it's legal to turn right on red lights WITHOUT STOPPING!

Then assuming you can reach the sidewalk without getting injured, you have to dodge the motorcycles driving on the sidewalk at the same speed they do on the street. The arcade walkways 騎樓 are blocked by parked motorcycles, other vehicles, and miscellaneous junk.
